Tuesday True, Good, and Beautiful #6

So I realize that it’s well after midnight, thus making it technically Wednesday. BUT. This post is all about being in Colorado for the weekend. And in Colorado it’s still before midnight. Which means it’s still Tuesday. Is that too much of a stretch? Maybe. Do I care? No. It’s finals week.

True: This weekend I ignored all my responsibilities and ran off to Denver with some friends for a wedding of our friend Steph, who used to be a FOCUS missionary at our campus. IT WAS AWESOME.

Mountains are crazy. It was so good to get away from the small details of life and remember how GRAND God really is, looking at the big picture and the grand scheme of things.

I had this verse which is often prayed during Morning Prayer in the Liturgy of the Hours stuck in my head all weekend. It’s 1 Chronicles 29:11.

Yours, Lord, are greatness and might, majesty, victory, and splendor. For all in Heaven and on earth is yours; yours, Lord, is kingship; you are exalted as head over all.

BOOM.

This is really not a great picture, but it's the lovely group of women I traveled with, plus the bride and two of her bridesmaids, also both formed UNL missionaries :)

Good: I got to see my amazing friend and former FOCUS mentor, Emily, while at the wedding. We had a very dramatic run-and-screech-and-hug-in-the-middle-of-the-dance-floor moment which was everything I hoped it would be. This woman has done so much for me over the last two years of our friendship. I am SO excited to spend this summer in Florida with her.

Carly said we look like twins and it's honestly the best compliment someone's ever given me :)

To give you a glimpse at how wonderful of a friend Emily is, last year for discipleship, she would get up at 6:30 am EVERY THURSDAY and go to Mass and get coffee with me because that was the only time I could go to Mass that day. If that’s not a committed, loyal friend, I don’t know what is.

I am so grateful for her example of what radically trusting God looks like. And she’s a SUPER legit missionary – I am so blessed to have her as an example as I start this job as well.

Beautiful: Mountains. Enough said. Hanging out at Red Rocks National Park. It was awesome. Here’s a selfie of me with some rocks.

We had an hour between the wedding and the reception, so of course we went hiking in our dresses.

Bonus Beautiful: We went to Mass at the Cathedral on Sunday morning. It was GORGEOUS. I texted my lovely Totus Tuus teammate Angie, who is from the Denver area, asking her if it was worth visiting. She said there was a lot of stained glass. UM, THERE IS. A LOT A LOT. It was awesome. They also had the most beautiful stations of the cross I had ever seen. They were carved out of marble and set into the wall. Insane. Here’s the crucifixion.

stations crucifixionOne minute to spare before it’s Wednesday even in Colorado. NAILED IT.

  1. Awesome, Carol! It was nice seeing a picture of you and Emily together, as well as all the other pictures. But if you and Emily found another way to sing a song and share it, that would be awesome, too! -Love, Mom. p.s. will I ever get your rendition of Royals? Maybe a nice inexpensive Mother’s Day present!

    1. I WANTED TO DO THAT FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY AND THEN I LOST MY STUPID VOICE RIGHT BEFORE IT AND THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED THIS WEEK. HOW ABOUT I RAIN-CHECK IT FOR BEFORE I LEAVE FOR FLORIDA? #stupidvoice

Also, Emily will be with me in Florida all summer, so I’m sure some jamming is bound to happen and be recorded :)
